Project Description
  • FHI 360 Four Pillars PLUS "Improving Girls' Secondary Education" in Nigeria
Project Summary
The FHI 360 Four Pillars PLUS project in Nigeria aims to improve the quality and relevance of secondary education for girls and other vulnerable children (OVC) and boost retention rates in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. The project will offer scholarships, girls' mentoring, teacher training, and encourage community participation to address the complex barriers to education for girls and OVCs. The PLUS component will focus on strengthening Adolescent Reproductive Health Education, addressing Early Pregnancy, Early Marriage and SRGBV. This is a 4 year project with funds provided annually.

Job Summary / Responsibilities
  • The Senior Finance Administrative Officer will be responsible for working closely with FHI 360 Four Pillars PLUS staff to implement the main objectives of project:
  • To improve the quality and relevance of girls' education and boost retention rates in select regions of Nigeria.
  • The project offers scholarships, girls' mentoring, teacher training, and community participation to address the complex barriers to education.
  • Senior Finance Administrative Officer is responsible for the administration of sound project budget, reviewing financial transactions, preparing imprest and reconciling all expenses on a timely manner and for ensuring that all records are in accordance with FHI 360 policies and procedures, and Nigerian national and local regulations and guidelines.
  • This position may be required to work additional hours and on-call for after hours, weekend, and holiday duty for emergency situations.
Essential Job Functions
  • Record, implement, report, and store the financial transactions needed to support a wide variety of legally authorized programs and related administrative functions through the modification or administration of manual and automated systems.
  • Maintain adherence to 'generally accepted accounting principles' by staff regarding activities and record keeping including attending training sessions regarding changes and instituting training sessions for staff.
  • Design, develop and implement office wide procedures, policies and guidelines related to complete accounting programs to facilitate the preparation of financial statements, accounting records, related reports, and the control, monitoring and timely reconciliation of accounts.
  • Implement office wide procedures, policies and guidelines pursuant to FHI 360's Operations Manual.
  • Work closely with Project Officer to maintain safety procedures for FHI 360 Four Pillars staff.
  • Serve as an expert authority on analysis and reconciliation of integrated accounts and budgets.
  • Ensure that funds are efficiently controlled and financial records accurately reflect the status of the financial condition of the project.
  • Perform reviews, analysis, and reporting in the various accounting functions assigned.
  • Work closely with Project Manager in Field Office and the Finance Manager in the Home Office to maintain financial health of project as well as during project close out phase at the appropriate time.
  • Maintain daily communications with financial/operations associates in HQ Washington office.
Necessary Skills and Requirements
  • Fluency in English and local languages is required;
  • Ability to take initiative is essential;
  • Understanding the ways that CBOs / NGOs operate;
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently;
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility, take initiative, and be flexible;
  • Strong organizational skills, including task and time management;
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to speak the local language/dialect is a PLUS;
  • Familiarity with the local culture and communication practices is a PLUS;
Qualifications
  • University Degree (Bachelor of Science or Higher National Diploma) in Finance and Accounting or recognized equivalent with a strict minimum of 5 years work experience required (possession of a relevant second degree will be an advantage).
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel, Micro-Information Product (MIP), MS Word, Database programs, QuickBooks, and other accounting/spreadsheet software required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and local language(s);
  • Ability to work individually, as well as on a team;
  • Ability to supervise and monitor performance of other employees;
  • Strong knowledge of international development issues.
