Job Title: General Manager (Waste Management)

Location: Lagos

Job Purpose

  • The General Manager will generally oversee the development, implementation and processes as well as maintenance of the entire plant operations, business development and production.
  • The purpose of this position is to ensure optimization and the efficiency of the plant.
  • Overseeing all the technical and general operations of all business interests including, but not limited to the technical assets, repairs, upgrades plant facilities, process areas and controls, and utilities regulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general leadership with our consultants, clients, and the and all stakeholders.
  • Review / Approve operational and technical SOPs.
  • Practice effective project management skills in leading new projects that the business will embark on.
  • Track progress towards goals, using program metrics, and budget spending to ensure achievement of goals within funding guidelines
  • Mentor team members in achieving various task or assignments.
  • Partners - often in a billable capacity within an engagement
  • Identify opportunities for automation by leveraging the latest software and digital technologies.
  • Manage capital project budgets. Ensure projects are completed within budget and on time and communicate project status and significant milestones to senior executives.
  • Liaise with Apex Human Capital Team in Ghana to ensure the right technical skills sets are hired for all technical positions.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other managers to leverage resources and discuss solutions to matters of significance.
  • Develops and implements processes for leveraging and using resources to meet customer needs.

Job Specification
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • An MBA or post graduate qualification.
  • Member of a recognized professional body (Institute of Engineers or a senior level Project Management certification) - preferred

Technical and Skills Requirements:

  • 10+ years in management or supervisory experience, including hiring, coaching, performance reviews, and mentoring.
  • Proficiency in financial management
  • Proven track record in managing large capital projects
  • Responsible for promoting an efficient work environment with a key focus on the employee’s own safety and the safety of others and ensure that company and governmental rules and regulations are applied and followed.
  • Ensures the performance of root cause analysis for failures of equipment and system problems and recommend changes to Operations by modifying daily operation as needed to improved product quality, throughput or reliability.
  • Experience in the management of staff and general resource and role scheduling
  • Ability to perform quickly and effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work effectively with all categories of employees
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent leadership communication and negotiation skills with strong emotional maturity.
  • Serve as the representative legal entity for any strategic partnership or Joint Venture JV within the Waste Sector.
