Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) is an agency of the Federal Government under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Environment. Its operations are guided by the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2018 and by virtue of this Act, FRIN is the only Research Institute / Federal Government Agency empowered by law to handle all forestry and forestry-related matters in Nigeria. It has the mandate to conduct research into all aspects of forestry, sustainable forest management, environmental management, wildlife conservation and management, forest conservation and protection, medicinal plants, agro forestry, forest products development and utilization, forestry-related training as well as forestry research extension

FRIN's services and activities cover the entire nation and its mandate is implemented by highly qualified Research Scientists and Technical staff located at FRIN Headquarters in Ibadan and other FRIN establishments across the nation. The Institute is presently comprised of eight (8) specialized Research Departments, several Research Centers and Units, Seven (7) specialized ND / HND awarding Colleges, seven (7) support Departments, and seventeen (17) Research Outstations, through which FRIN fulfills the under-listed functions: Research, experimentation, sample application and patenting; Education and training with/and by the Colleges; Innovation and technology dissemination to end users through farming systems and extension services.

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the position below:

Job Title: Director General, Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN)

Location: Ibadan, Oyo (FRIN Headquarters)

Duties
The Director General shall be:

  • Charged with the day-to-day management of the affairs of the Institute in accordance with the FRIN Act and such instructions as may be given to him by the Minister through the Board of the Institute;
  • Serve as the Accounting Officer of the Institute; and
  • Responsible for the supervision and optimal performance of all FRIN establishments (Colleges, Research Outstations, Rural Resource Centers and adopted villages).

Qualifications
The Prospective candidate must:

  • Be a Research Professor with vast experience in forestry and or related disciplines.
  • Have a minimum of fifteen (15) years cognate teaching/research experience in a Research Institute, College of Forestry or any other related discipline.
  • Must have held a key administrative position for at least four (4)years preceding the application;
  • Applicants must be registered members of the Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN) and other professional bodies relevant to their discipline, and
  • Prospective candidates must demonstrate the ability to offer Academic / Administrative leadership and be able to show evidence of at least four(4) additional publications in reputable journals and three (3) other Conference / Seminar papers since their last promotion.

Terms of Appointment

  • A term of four (4) years (with an option of renewal for a second term).

Remuneration
Consolidated salary scale.
