The Mirabel Centre which opened on July 1, 2013, is a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) established and managed by Partnership for Justice (PJ) to provide holistic and high quality medical and psychosocial services to survivors of sexual assault and rape. Men, women and children who have either recently or in the past experienced rape or sexual assault benefit from the free and comprehensive medical, counseling and aftercare services provided by the Mirabel Centre. These services are delivered to the clients in a professional and timely manner to help them overcome the trauma of rape and sexual assault. The Mirabel Centre is the first sexual assault referral Centre in Nigeria and the second in West Africa.

Job Title: Forensic Physician

Location: Lagos

Job Brief

  • We are looking for a Forensic Physician to join our team to provide medical and therapeutic support services to survivors of rape and sexual violence.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensuring Quality of Services to Survivors.
  • Conducting medical/forensic examinations as needed and requested by the survivor, and ensuring timely completion and signing of the medical certificate
  • Ensuring that international standards of care for survivors are met at all times and the best interest of the survivor remains paramount.
  • Evaluating and referring survivors to access additional healthcare that may not be provided at the Centre.
  • Providing information and instructions to survivors on the medical treatment regimen and available medical options, ensuring that the survivors and care-givers understand them.
  • Creating a safe environment for survivors to speak out and seek needed help and acknowledging the trauma they are going through.
  • Providing expert testimony in court on behalf of the client when needed.
  • Providing information and sensitisation on prevention and support services to communities and stakeholders when needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years Post qualification as a medical doctor experienced in the direct provision of examinations, treatment, and care services to women and children
  • Substantial knowledge and/or practical experience in health and medical issues pertaining to gender-based violence response, and in the provision of appropriate care for survivors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of providing quality service delivery for survivors of gender-based violence in various settings and circumstances.
  • Experience engaging constructively with diverse groups of stakeholders at all levels in a participatory, inclusive manner to address issues that may be viewed as sensitive or controversial with respect to traditional socio-cultural beliefs and practices.
