The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi-arid or dryland tropics has over 2 billion people, and 644 million of these are the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower these poor people to overcome poverty, hunger and a degraded environment through better agriculture.

ICRISAT seeks applications to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountant

Location: Kano

Responsibilities
  • Bookkeeping and accounts records
  • Banking and bank reconciliation
  • Verification of payment vouchers and claims
  • Invoice matching for goods received
  • Banking, verification and preparation of vouchers to be paid in Naira/USD
  • Verification and approval of petty-cash disbursements
  • Staff and supplier advances liquidation
  • Cash receipt and disbursement
  • Manage physical inventory of fixed assets and capital items
  • Labor and payroll payments
  • Preparation and timely submission of monthly statements & payment vouchers to ICRISAT Niamey
  • Provide assistance for workshops/events and orientate clients on need basis
  • Help to prepare accounting documents/data for audit exercise
  • Interacts with NAPS & other partners for advances justification
  • Handle any other tasks and assignments warranted by the position or by the CR
Requirements
  • B.A/HND in Accounting, Business Administration or related fields
  • Thorough understanding of financial concepts
  • At least three years working experience as an accountant, in account department or financial Institution
  • Experience working in an international Organization or Multicultural organization is an advantage
  • Working knowledge of French will be an asset
  • Ability to communicate in Hausa is an added advantage.
