Edwin Drake is currently representing an International Conglomerate with activities across Oil and Gas, Trading, Agriculture and Power just to mention a few. On their behalf we are seeking to identify and attract a professional who is well versed in Corporate Law for the role of:

Job Title: Legal Director

Job Description
  • With full oversight over the entire group, as the Legal Director you will defending corporate interest by anticipating risks, reducing liabilities, preventing litigation and above all, ensure compliance with laws and regulations in Nigeria as well as the other countries in which the group operates in.
Your area of focus will include, however will not be limited to:

Legal Structure:
  • Laws and regulations that govern the organisation
  • Commercial Agreements: drafting and negotiating Contracts & Agreements including: PSCs, JVs, etc.
Litigation:
  • Prevention, defence and settlement of disputes
Advisory:
  • General advice and legal opinions to management regarding legal implication of legal and regulatory changes as well as representation of the company in meetings with stakeholders and regulatory bodies
Human Resources:
  • Legal advice and support on personnel matters, including employee grievances and claims
Qualification/Requirements
  • To excel in this role, beyond your exceptional skills within Corporate Law and Litigations, you are a strategic thinker with excellent business acumen and a solution-focused approach.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a good team spirit will also enable you to maximise the collective effort in working together towards the same goal.
In addition to the above, you will also demonstrate the following:
  • Member of the Nigerian Bar, with a Law Degree/Qualification from a highly reputable institution
  • Exceptional knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks particularly in West Africa such as: PSCs, JVs, JOA, CHA, etc.
  • Strong commercial legal background and excellent legal contracting skills, with demonstrated success in the areas of contract negotiation
  • Knowledge of the PIB and relevant exposure to most energy and natural resource laws
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing and facilitation skills
  • Experience in excess of 15 years, majority of which should have been spent in a law firm, or commercial oil and gas environment.
