The Opportunity

  • Abt Associates seeks to build its roster of qualified nutrition consultants. We are seeking nutrition specialists with experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, and/or learning to provide services to USAID under the anticipated USAID Enhancing Nutrition Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning in the Health Sector Activity.
  • This Activity will support USAID’s Office of Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (GH/MCHN) with collaborative generation and use of evidence in nutrition, and enhance local capacity for nutrition monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning in the health sector.
  • The Activity will fill evidence gaps to improve nutrition outcomes through health systems while ensuring local partners design, implement, disseminate, and use such evidence for policies and programs.  

Indicative Responsibilities

  • Leads or supports the design and implementation of research and other MERL activities to ensure activities fill evidence gaps, address the needs of USAID/Washington and Missions, and enhance multi-sectoral nutrition programming.
  • Coordinates ongoing national or regional research and MERL activities with local partners and core project teams.
  • Maintains excellent working relationships with project stakeholders.   
  • Supports design and implementation of MERL activities, including study design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • May contribute to communicating project results through reports, policy briefs, national and international forums and other appropriate avenues.

Requirements
What We Value:

  • Master’s or Advanced Degree in Nutrition Science and Policy, Public Health or another closely related field. 
  • Professional experience with one (1) or more of the following technical areas in nutrition: micronutrient deficiencies, food fortification, infant and young child feeding, school age and adolescent nutrition, early childhood development.
  • Demonstrated experience in nutrition monitoring, evaluation, research and learning.
  • Familiarity with USAID’s multi-sectoral nutrition and health system strengthening approaches and gender programming.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent demonstrated interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local governments, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and local communities. 
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. 
  • Ability to travel as required.
