Job Title: General Manager - Diagnostic and Laboratory Services

Location: Lekki, Lagos

Job Description

  • General Manager is responsible for running day-to-day operations of the Laboratory and guiding general business strategy; establishes and maintains standards of performance and ensures competency and appropriate licensure of personnel. Also includes overseeing hiring and scheduling staff, tracking cash flow and setting sales goals for the team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides overall leadership and direction for the achievement of agreed targets/objectives for the Medical Lab and Diagnostic Centre functions
  • Oversees the formulation and administration of the policies and processes governing the management of all the Medical Diagnostic Centre functions in line with its corporate strategy, key business objectives, industry-leading practices, standards and applicable laws
  • Promotes the company’s core values (Professionalism, Adherence to Ethics, Optimal Services Delivery, Respect, Openness) and a strong team culture
  • Develop and review proper documentation including standards of operations, quality manuals and troubleshooting procedures
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
  • Determine and implement the most effective and cost-beneficial delivery model for providing support services
  • Review reports from all the units within the organisation and reports operational updates to the management of the organisation
  • Manages the day-to-day performance, learning and development of the team, including one on one feedback sessions and conduct performance appraisals
  • Maintain diagnostic centre productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment
  • Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results
  • Monitors the institutionalisation of a customer-focused culture and high performance across the organisation’s functions
  • Ensuring staff compliance with procedures
  • Maintain diagnostic centre staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Manage diagnostic centre staff by counselling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Support the implementation and facilitation of relevant workshops and training courses
  • Lead the development of the company’s corporate strategy by providing strategic insights and inputs on all Medical Lab and Diagnostic Centre functions
  • Coordinates the formulation and administration of the organization’s business strategy and implementation initiatives
  • Evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with all internal/external stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Oversees financial operations including payment services, debt recovery, budget preparation, investment decisions etc
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability
  • Ensure diagnostic equipment performance by overseeing certification of instrument performance and optimal maintenance
  • Manage procurement processes and coordinates material and resources allocation
  • Ensures initiation, maintenance and completion of efficient service delivery processes
  • Maintain quality results by implementing QMS; performing proficiency surveys; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; making adjustments in policy and procedures; generating reports; maintaining records
  • Implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals; developing and performing parallel testing; monitoring progress
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Maintain medical laboratory information system by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; testing; writing user manuals; training employees; maintaining security and confidentiality
  • Oversees data management processes, prioritising data privacy and confidentiality
  • Provides administrative support for the facility and ensures availability of administrative tools for staff
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations.

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a First Degree in Medicine, Health Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry or any other relevant discipline from a reputable institution.
  • Relevant higher qualifications, e.g., Master’s Degree in Medical Microbiology, Public Health, Health Administration, Business Administration or related field is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years expereince.
