Job Title: IT Systems Administrator

Location: Lagos

Job Brief

  • The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and security of company intranets and computer systems.
  • The duties include installing antivirus or malware protection software, responding to employee concerns or drafting documents to help employees use computer systems and coordinating with company leadership to determine new technologies that could enhance their company’s computer systems.
  • The System Administrator will typically ensure that employees have secure and efficient computer systems to fulfill their daily job responsibilities.
  • Working closely with IT personnel and company employees to update systems, address security breaches and help troubleshoot issues, the job also includes planning for problematic situations and creating procedures to restore computer systems and their functionality.

Duties and Responsibilities
System Administrators identify any problems in the system, anticipate potential issues and repair systems and software when necessary. Other duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Setting up new users and giving them access to the intranet.
  • Managing and maintaining the file servers.
  • Operating the firewall for the organization.
  • Monitoring the internet connection for security risks.
  • Employing the latest security protocols as approved.
  • Monitoring the local area network (LAN) for threats or errors.
  • Ensuring proper back up of the Company’s data.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Company’s IT policies.
  • Keeping computer systems running smoothly and ensuring users get the maximum benefit from them
  • Installation and configuration of computer hardware operating systems and applications.
  • Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks.
  • Talking staff through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the phone, to help set up systems or resolve issues.
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults.
  • Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports.
  • Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system.
  • Supporting the roll-out of new applications.
  • Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and deal with password issues.
  • Responding within agreed time limits to call-outs.
  • Working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate).
  • Prioritizing and managing many open cases at one time.

Daily Routine:

  • On a typical day, a System Administrator starts by checking company network and computer systems to make sure they’re secure and working correctly. They check their email and voicemail to see if they have any service requests from company employees and schedule times for themselves or other IT personnel to assist employees with computer issues.
  • Throughout the day, System Administrators participate in meetings with the IT department and upper management staff to discuss upcoming changes to the system or recurring complaints from employees. They also spend time reviewing the department budget and researching beneficial software to incorporate into computer systems.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • B.Sc or HND in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Technology or any other related course.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience as an IT Administrator or IT Support Analyst.
  • Proficient in Networking, Database Security and Microsoft 365.
  • Professional certification in Networking and Cybersecurity.
