Job Title: Music Producer / Sound Engineer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Reports Directly to: Operations Manager.

Position Summary

  • The sound engineer will record, mix and edit music and audio for our productions.
  • You will set up and operate sound equipment in live events, recordings or post-productions to ensure the best acoustic result.
  • As a music producer, your role borders on managing the studio recording process for bands, singers or other musicians.
  • You will direct recording sessions, manage recording budgets and provide clear directions and visions for Artistes to follow for each music album project, making sure that each track is as high-quality and commercially viable as possible.

Key Responsibilities
As Sound Engineer:

  • Set up and test sound equipment before events, broadcasts or recordings
  • Record, edit and mix audio tracks (instruments, vocals etc.)
  • Enhance sound quality and add sound effects to recordings
  • Work with video editors to synchronize video with audio tracks
  • Resolve technical issues when they arise
  • Regulate volume levels and sound quality
  • Record, edit and mix audio tracks
  • Provide professional oversight during live productions
  • Create and update sound libraries
  • Stay up to date with latest trends and best practices
  • Maintain all professional recording and broadcasting equipment including routine checks, repairs, arranging portable appliance testing and assessing the potential capabilities and scope of equipment, advising the Management of latest technological developments and/or changing

As Music Producer:

  • Produce a music album every quarter of the year
  • Develop the vision and direction for each quarterly project
  • Ensure studio recording, mixing, and mastering are of the highest acoustic standard
  • Listen to artists's demo tapes and work with artists to produce the sound they require
  • Do a variety of technical works including audio editing, sound design, and ghost production
  • Play a lead role in the planning of the launch of the UncutXtra albums
  • Negotiate contract and recording arrangements with prospective clients
  • Plan company event schedules, timings and performances
  • Work with organizations, venues and artists involved in live events
  • Develop programs and sessions that keeps the music studio lively
  • Work hand-in-hand with the marketing team to secure clients for the music studio
  • Constantly work with the graphics and media department to promote the studio services
  • Attend music industry events, concerts, and performances
  • Organize internal team meetings to meet departmental KPIs
  • Work with the music DJ in producing mixtapes for the company
  • Monitor the company’s released album on all digital platforms and suggests ways to improve statistics
  • Submit weekly report of all activities and deliverables
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Management

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science of Music, or Music.
  • Firm grasp of sound editing techniques.
  • 2+ years' experience using digital audio hardware and software Other Selection Criteria (skills, knowledge and experience):
  • Technical expertise in sound engineering techniques (e.g. equalization)
  • Experience with sound editing and recording equipment (e.g. mixing consoles)
  • Working knowledge of recording software and hardware
  • A team player with excellent communication skills
  • Competent instrumentalist, composer and knowledgeable about latest trends in the industry
  • Creativity and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of industry law and ethics
  • Ability to network with artistes, record companies and managers
  • Ability to get the best performance out of an act
  • Has a thorough knowledge of recording studio and techniques
  • Ability and willingness to work unsociable hours
  • Familiarity with the latest industry developments
  • Attention to detail and an excellent ear for music (required for analyzing all the elements of a musical piece and identifying flaws in the production process)
  • The ability to give productive feedback and the mental fortitude to receive negative feedback
