Job Title: Driver

Location: Apo Resettlement, Abuja (FCT)
Reporting to: Human Resource Administrator

Job Brief

  • A School Driver is responsible for transporting students to and from school, as well as other school-related events and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport students to and from school, following designated routes and schedules.
  • Ensure that the school bus is in good working condition before each trip, performing routine maintenance as needed and reporting any issues or concerns to the appropriate authority.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus, enforcing rules and discipline when necessary and ensuring that all students are seated and wearing their seat belts or other safety equipment as required.
  • Develop a positive and supportive relationship with students, parents, and school staff, responding to questions or concerns and acting as a role model for safe and responsible behavior.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development, keeping up-to-date on safety regulations, driving techniques, and other related topics.
  • Maintain accurate records of bus routes, schedules, and student ridership, as well as incident reports and other documentation as required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle parts, functionality and the ability to fix minor fault
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration.

Key Performance Indicator

  • On-time performance: This measures how often the driver arrives at their designated stops on time. A school district might set a goal of having 95% of pickups and drop-offs occur on time.
  • Student satisfaction: This measures how satisfied students and their parents are with the driver's performance. This could be measured through surveys or feedback forms.
  • Safety record: This measures the number of accidents or incidents that occur while the driver is on the job. The school district might set a goal of zero accidents or incidents.
  • Fuel efficiency: This measures how much fuel the driver uses per trip or per day. The school district might set a goal of reducing fuel usage by 10% over the course of a year.
  • Maintenance and repairs: This measures how often the driver's vehicle requires maintenance or repairs. The school district might set a goal of reducing maintenance costs by a certain percentage or increasing the time between repairs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of SSCE certificate or its equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving a school bus or similar vehicle.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to school bus transportation.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the traffic rules, road signs and defensive driving
  • Willingness to submit to a background check and drug screening, as required by state law or school policy.
