Job Title: Finance Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Required Languages:  English
Travel - Must be willing and able to travel up to 50%.
Supervisory Responsibilities: (N/A)
Key Working Relationships:
Internal: Program Managers, Finance team members
External: Sub-recipients

Job Summary

  • You will assist project implementation by working directly with local partners and community members, coordinating various project activities and events in support of Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work to serve the poor and vulnerable.
  • Your service and community relations skills ensure that the local partners and communities feed into and benefit from the project that consistently applies best practices and continuously works towards improving its impact.

Roles and Key Responsibilities

  • Help ensure maintenance of all data required for processing financial transactions for assigned accounts in INSIGHT financial accounting package and be responsible for all payment processing assigned under this level.
  • Record delegated financial transactions following appropriate authorizations. Review various accounts to detect irregularities.
  • Help evaluate subrecipient financial management processes in accordance with policy and help strengthen capacity of partner in financial accounting and transactions.
  • Prepare delegated financial reports as needed and perform variance analysis to assist with decision-making and proper management of financial resources.
  • Review of supporting documentation of financial transactions to ensure all required documents are accurate and in compliance with agency and donor requirements and local laws and regulations.
  • Periodically, through training share basic information with staff, and subrecipients on financial accounting policies and procedural compliance issues and support capacity strengthening.
  • Support in preparing the monthly Bank Reconciliation Statements
  • Review, analyze and monitor staff, vendor, and Sub-recipient aging report.
  • Oversee the financial transaction of ACCESS, ICS and LDSC projects.
  • Other tasks assigned by the Head of Finance

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration is required.
  • Professional Certification in accounting (ICAN, CPA, ACCA or equivalent) will be preferred.
  • Minimum of three years accounting experience, preferably with an international or local NGO, or a financial/banking institution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Observation, active listening and analysis skills with ability to make sound judgment
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups 
  • Proactive, results-oriented and service-oriented
