Job Description

• We are hiring an Accountant who will be responsible for all areas of financial reporting, including analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information for The Republic.

• As the first accounting hire, you will establish accounting processes and standards.
• The ideal candidate will have a combination of accounting and business development skills and the capacity to overhaul existing accounting processes in line with global best practices. • Depending on experience and milestones, the role could transition into that of Growth Lead or Head of Finance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a robust set of business metrics including but not limited to total sales and total subscriptions, churn and renewal rates;
• Prepare monthly journal entries and assist with month-end close process;
• Perform month-end balance sheet reconciliations including bank and A/R accounts and investigate/correct items as needed;
• Manage monthly staff reimbursements and contributor payments;
• Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financials and analysis including P&L and Balance Sheet;
• Record fixed asset purchases, disposals, and depreciation;
• Support internal teams with analysis, budgets and forecasts; and
• Meet internal and corporate deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or related subjects with ICAN/ACCA accounting certifications; 
• At least 3 years of post-NYSC general accounting experience;
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
• Experience with QuickBooks;
• Extensive understanding of IFRS and GAAP accounting standards;
• Strong financial analysis skills;
• Ability to work independently;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• Highly organized and able to multitask; and
• Familiarity with the media industry.
