We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Manager, Gender Research

Recruitment Type: National (2-year renewable contract)

Duties

  • Conduct innovative gender research to address the most important social bottlenecks constraining the development of VPC seed systems in target countries, with a particular focus on Nigeria.
  • Partner with the CIP gender scientist in developing work plans and implement research on specific gender-focused questions in the CrossCutting Component such as;
    • Develop and validate gender responsive tools for VPC seed demand estimation, production forecasting and production planning.
    • Work with project team members and partners to pilot improved seed business models that provide better opportunities for women.
  • Contribute gender expertise to single crop component research activities in the banana, cassava, and yam components.
  • Work with project team members and the CIP gender scientist to apply a gender lens to overall project execution of innovation research, in order to ensure that women or disadvantaged groups get equal opportunities to participate in project work and to ensure that project teams avoid intentional or unintentional bias.
  • Liaise with the project data management team and M&E officer in setting up systems for recording, collating, and reporting on sex-disaggregated and gender focused data.
  • Represent the project team, together with the CIP gender scientists, in describing the project’s gender strategy and responding to gender focused questions during project meetings and project review activities.
  • Draft and publish reports and scientific publications, with support from project colleagues, on aspects of gender research undertaken by PROSSIVA.
  • Provide quarterly update reports to the Project Management Team (PMT) on progress in PROSSIVA gender work.
  • Interact frequently with the IITA gender team and provide a communication link between this team and the PROSSIVA Project
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

Qualifications

  • Master's in Sociology, Agriculture or related field with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Have excellent writing and oral communication skills in English for efficient communication with diverse project implementing partners and reporting.
  • Be proficient in MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and preferably also in software applications for analysis of social science research
  • Be well organized, able to multitask and work under pressure to meet deadlines with keen attention to detail.
  • Have a positive attitude, strong team spirit and the ability to develop constructive research collaborations with individuals and institutions with a diverse set of backgrounds and geographies.
  • Preferably have experience of publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals which are recognized by the Thomson indexing system (https://mjl.clarivate.com/search-results).
  • Have strong knowledge of agricultural systems, with some experience of working with farmers.
