Job Title: Assistant Professor, Politics and International Studies

Summary

• The post-holder will be required to instruct courses, both introductory and advanced levels, in line with his or her area of expertise. The successful candidate must have a PhD at the time of applying with at least three (3) years of university-level teaching experience.
• The candidate should be able to teach courses such as Political Science/Social Science Research Methods, Introduction to Comparative Politics, Introduction to Political Theory, and any Courses in Political Science and International Studies. The candidate should also be able to do other departmental and university-wide duties as assigned to them.
• S/he will possess an established, or potential to establish, record of excellence in teaching, research and service.
  Candidates should possess a strong record of academic publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and other artistic renditions commensurate with career stage.

Job Purpose

• The successful candidates will teach courses in Politics and International Studies.
• Conduct research and publish papers in rigorous peer-reviewed journals.
• Promote the department’s research and scholarly activities by presenting research findings in seminars and conferences.
• Supervise research projects, tutor and mentor students.
• Lead or be part of other committees aimed at promoting research, curriculum development, staff welfare etc.
• Contribute to AUN’s community service and development.
• Other duties as assigned by the Chair or the Dean.

Person Specification

• PhD in Politics, International Studies, International Relations, Political Science and Political Studies.
• Experience in American Style of higher education.
• At least three (3) years experience at University level education.
• An outstanding teaching and research record commensurate with career stage.
• Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
• Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.
