Summary
- We are seeking an exceptionally qualified and experienced Law Librarian who is very competent in teaching in line with the requirements of the Council of Legal Education (CLE).
Detailed Listing of Responsibilities
- Provide research support to students, faculty members and library patrons.
- Participate in students’ research education and scholarly research support.
- Law library representatives in committee meetings and other meetings with the law library staff members, faculty members and stakeholders from external organisations.
- Provision of legal reference services and guidance to the law school’s faculty members, staff members, students and as the case may be, the general public.
- Give assistance and support to staff members and students with legal reference sources, publications and online sources.
- Facilitate the training of lawyers, students, staff members and others on the utilisation of internet-based legal research programs and other emerging electronic resources.
- Facilitate the teaching of legal research skills and courses to law students as it pertains to first year legal research and writing curriculum to first year students.
- Coordinate the researching of legal topics and update of library materials for relevance and accuracy.
- Assist in the organisation of legal materials, such as books on shelves according to subject areas and by alphabetic organization by the author’s last name.
- Maintaining reference databases and ensuring that they are updated with new information as it becomes available.
- Facilitate the training of other librarians in relevant legal topics to ensure their knowledgeability in all areas of legal research.
- Be the chief custodian of records of the law library materials and services such as circulation statistics and reference requests.
- Recommend as appropriate new technologies or processes to enhance efficiency and/or effectiveness.
- The position will require effective participation in law faculty committees, the AUN law clinic, the AUN Moot Court, the AUN Access to Justice Programs and Law Related Community Development Services.
Person Specification
- Candidates must hold a good Degree in Law (LL.B. and BL.). A Masters’ degree in Law (LL.M) is an added advantage.
- In addition to the aforementioned, the candidate should also hold a Masters of Library Science (MLS) or Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an accredited University in Nigeria in addition to at least 3 years’ cognate experience.
