Job Description

  • Supervising Dispatch Operations: The Dispatch Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the dispatch department. They manage a team of dispatchers, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient coordination.
  • Scheduling and Routing: They develop and implement schedules and routes for dispatching personnel, vehicles, or shipments. This involves optimizing routes to minimize costs and maximize efficiency, taking into account factors such as traffic, delivery deadlines, and available resources.
  • Dispatching Assignments: The Dispatch Manager assigns tasks to individual dispatchers or drivers, taking into consideration their skills, availability, and proximity to the destination. They communicate assignments clearly and provide necessary instructions and documentation.
  • Monitoring and Tracking: They monitor the progress of dispatched vehicles, shipments, or personnel to ensure timely arrivals and efficient use of resources. This involves utilizing tracking systems, GPS technology, or other monitoring tools to maintain visibility and resolve any issues that may arise during transit.
  • Communication and Coordination: The Dispatch Manager acts as a central point of contact, coordinating communication between dispatchers, drivers, customers, and other stakeholders. They ensure effective communication channels are in place, respond to inquiries, and address any concerns or emergencies that arise during operations.
  • Performance Evaluation and Training: They assess the performance of dispatchers and drivers, providing feedback, coaching, and training as necessary. The Dispatch Manager may develop and implement performance metrics or quality standards to evaluate individual and team performance.
  • Process Improvement: They continuously analyze and improve dispatching processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction. This may involve implementing new technologies, streamlining workflows, or recommending operational changes.
  • Compliance and Documentation: The Dispatch Manager ensures compliance with relevant regulations, laws, and company policies. They maintain accurate records, including logs, reports, and documentation related to dispatch operations, and ensure adherence to safety and security procedures.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: They participate in budget planning and control activities related to the dispatch department. This may involve monitoring expenses, optimizing resource allocation, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or service.
  • Relationship Management: The Dispatch Manager cultivates positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. They address customer complaints or inquiries, resolve issues promptly, and seek opportunities to enhance collaboration and business partnerships.

Requirement

  • Knowledge of Lagos terrain is a must.
