Job Description
Position Summary:
- The Kitchen Assistant at Huxton Hotel plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen operations and ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the culinary department.
- This position involves assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and collaborating with the kitchen team to deliver exceptional culinary experiences for guests.
- The Kitchen Assistant reports to the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Assist in food preparation and cooking under the guidance of the kitchen team, ensuring adherence to recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas, in compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Wash, peel, chop, and slice ingredients as directed by the kitchen staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing food and supplies, properly rotating stock and monitoring expiration dates.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely and smooth food service, including plating and garnishing dishes, as needed.
- Operate kitchen equipment, such as mixers, grinders, slicers, and ovens, following safety guidelines and instructions.
- Support the team in maintaining inventory levels and notifying the appropriate personnel when supplies or ingredients need to be replenished.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic dishwashing area, ensuring proper cleaning and sanitization of utensils, dishes, and cooking equipment.
- Follow proper food handling and storage procedures to maintain food quality, prevent contamination, and minimize waste.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of chemicals and cleaning agents.
- Assist with inventory management, conducting stock counts, and documenting inventory levels accurately.
- Collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively to ensure smooth coordination and teamwork within the kitchen.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of food stations and buffet displays for events and functions.
- Uphold high standards of cleanliness, organization, and professionalism in the kitchen area.
- Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and stay updated on food safety practices and culinary techniques.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess an SSCE qualification with 1 - 3 years relevant work experience.
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment operation.
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper hygiene practices.
- Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and portion sizes accurately.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the kitchen team.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on cleanliness, organization, and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Basic math skills for measurements and portioning.
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities in a dynamic culinary environment.
