Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo - The post of the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo will become vacant from 20th July 2015.
The College
Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo was established in October, 1977 with the sole mandate of training teachers for special needs education at the Primary and Secondary levels of Education. The five fold mission statements of the College are:-
- Producing highly professional, competent and committed teachers for special needs education at the Primary and Secondary Levels of Education.
- Undertaking a thorough investigation through research info the peculiar needs of persons with special educational needs and the gifted and talented in the Nigerian Society.
- Producing students with high level technological know-how that could enable them operate, maintain and repair specialized equipment and materials in special education.
- Producing a body of young professionals ingrained with attitudes, values and interests compatible with the socio-economic environment of persons with special needs and
- Encouraging the training of serving teachers through part-time studies so as to upgrade their skills.

Duties of the Provost
- The Provost is the Chief Executive of the College. The successful candidate would be expected to provide the required Academic, Administrative and Professional leadership for the College in executing the broad policies laid down by the Governing Council for the achievement of the objectives for which the institution was established.
- He/she shall foster good rapport with the relevant organs of the Federal Ministry of Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and other Professional bodies, bearing in mind that the College has also been designated as Centre of Excellence in Special Education

The candidate for the post should therefore be:
- A distinguished Academic Scholar of National and International repute with considerable experience at the top level of Management and Administration of Tertiary Institutions.
- A person of entrepreneurial and innovative pre-disposition with proven track record appropriate to the vision and mission of a fast growing College of Education.
- A person capable of inspiring the advancement of learning and reaching out to all persons without discrimination of race, creed or sex.
- A person of good conduct, possessing sense of discipline, dedication, drive, resourcefulness and ability to command respect and loyalty of the members of staff and the students of the College.
- He/she must be somebody who is not likely to foster personal, social, ethnic, political, religious and other sectional interests.
- A person capable of upholding the best traditions of the College of Education system
- A person of good health, pleasant disposition, charitable manners, unassailable integrity and strong moral character.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess at least a Masters Degree in a field relevant to at least one programme in the College from a recognized University.
- The possession of a higher Degree such as Ph.D will be an added advantage.
- Note: relevant Master's Degrees and for Ph.D imply degrees in candidates teaching subjects. The possession of a professional teaching qualification, minimum of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is mandatory.
- Be not more than 60 years old as at the date of possible assumption of duty on 20th July, 2015.
- Candidates must have held Senior Teaching Research and top Administrative post in an institution of higher learning for a minimum of Fifteen (15) years post qualification cognate experience and must not be below the rank of Chief Lecturer in a College of Education or a Reader or Associate Professor in a University or equivalent institution.
- Applicants must have a minimum of Five (5) years residency at the level of a Chief Lecturer or its equivalent.
- Candidates must show evidence of good track record of result-oriented researches reaching high National and International status in their research achievement.
- Preference will be given to candidates from the College of Education system.
Terms and Appointments of Service
- The appointment Is for an initial period of Four (4) years in the first instance and may be eligible for re-appointment for a second and final term of Four (4) years.
- The salary and other conditions of service shall be as approved for Provosts of Federal Colleges of Education by the Federal Government.
