Job Description
- A surveyor is responsible for measuring and mapping land, water, and airspace to determine property boundaries, create maps, and provide accurate data for construction, engineering, and other purposes.
- They use specialized equipment, such as total stations, GPS receivers, and laser scanners, to collect precise measurements and data.
Responsibilities
- Conduct land surveys to determine property boundaries, topography, and other relevant information.
- Use surveying instruments and equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and levels to collect precise measurements.
- Prepare survey plans, maps, and reports based on collected data and ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Assist in the establishment of control points and reference markers for construction projects.
- Provide survey data and support to engineers, architects, and other professionals during project planning and development.
- Conduct research and gather relevant information from various sources to support surveying projects.
- Ensure compliance with surveying standards, regulations, and safety procedures.
- Manage and oversee surveying projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of field activities.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree: Obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geoinformatics, or a related field from a recognized Nigerian university or an institution with an equivalent accreditation. The degree program should be accredited by the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON).
- 2 - 5 years work experience.
- SURCON Registration: Register with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) as a surveyor after completing the required educational qualifications. SURCON is the regulatory body for surveyors in Nigeria.
Skills:
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments and equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills to perform calculations and interpret survey data accurately.
- Knowledge of surveying software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools for data processing and mapping.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and data collection.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to overcome challenges encountered during surveys.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Nigerian surveying laws, regulations, and practices.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions and terrains.
