Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (RC 638640), is one of the eleven successor distribution companies of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Kaduna Electric, a registered trademark of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, is licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to distribute and retail electricity within a service coverage area of Northwestern-most of Nigeria. It has its Headquarters in Kaduna, with offices in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.

Job Summary
  • Perform technical and economic assessments and analysis of power distribution issues, including smart grid technology and the potential impact of embedded generation and interconnection on the customer, society and the company at large. The position will perform power systems modeling, scenario simulations and planning studies required for reliability analyses of bulk power systems, energy markets, whole sale market prices, power flows, distribution losses, stability, deliverability studies, local capacity requirements, and Load forecasting.
  • Responsible for performing MV Substation and Network engineering design including electromechanical design services for in-house and external clients. The post will be responsible for Preparation of plans, schematics, 1-lines, 3-lines, wiring diagrams, materials lists & specifications for adaptation and modification of standard engineering design techniques procedures and criteria, the execution and development of deliverables for MV substations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct various Power system studies (Load flow, short Circuit, DSM, Arc flash etc) to solve power system issues.
  • Properly utilize planning studies and reports to generate project justification and create necessary budget items for approval.
  • Develops technical information to formulate resource-to-load analysis, including system load forecasts and purchased power requirements.
  • Makes complex electrical computations to determine type and arrangement of circuits, size, type and number of pieces of equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and lightning arresters.
  • Perform distribution circuit analysis for loading, voltage, reactive power, reliability, balancing and coordination.
  • Prepare Short and long range power system planning on distribution and sub-transmission systems and assist with transmission planning activities
  • Tracks third party (IPP) energy received and delivered for power system planning activities. Performs analysis of load growth, revenue requirements, and evaluates potential alternative energy sources and participates in cost/benefit analyses.
  • Forecasting load growth by areas.
  • Model all necessary aspects of distribution network system
  • Develop and review technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment/ projects and estimates costs.
  • Provide guidance in the selection of equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, construction and installation work.
  • Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
  • Construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
  • Design cable routes and develop physical layouts including height, spacing and location parameters.
Experience and Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Minimum of 5-9 years cognate experience in a related function.
  • Registered Engineer/Professional Membership (NSE, IET, IEEE) etc.
Competency and Skill Requirements
  • Good knowledge of MYTO 2 is necessary
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent knowledge of power distribution system in the electricity sector.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Good programming skills e.g. Matlab, C++, Excel.
  • Familiarity with power system engineering software such as NEPLAN, ETAP, etc.
  • Ability to analyze and model large data sets.
  • Good presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely to communicate complex issues
