Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (RC 638640), is one of the eleven successor distribution companies of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Kaduna Electric, a registered trademark of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, is licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to distribute and retail electricity within a service coverage area of Northwestern-most of Nigeria. It has its Headquarters in Kaduna, with offices in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.

Kaduna Electric is looking to employ young, vibrant professionals to fill the position below in the Engineering and Technical Services Department:

Job Title: Power Lines Technician

Job Status: Full-time
Locations: Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States

Job Summary
  • Patrol, inspect and maintain the Service Centre distribution network including Lightning Arrestor, Isolators, Switches, etc.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the construction of new MV and LV distribution lines and maintenance of existing power distribution network.
  • Visually inspect and patrol distribution and sub transmission lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution auxiliary devices such as cross-arms, lightening arrestors, Fuses etc. including connection to power cables and related equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
  • Open switches or attach grounding devices in order to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs. Replace damaged poles with new poles, and straighten the poles.
  • Assist in Installation of industrial metering panel and connect/disconnect service drops between power lines and consumers' facilities.
  • Monitor tree trimming activities during line tracing exercise.
  • Performs line switching operations during maintenance and or commissioning activities
Experience and Minimum Requirements
  • Secondary School Certificate, Ordinary Diploma/Equivalent
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word and excel.
  • Minimum of 0-2 year cognate experience
Competency and Skill Requirements
  • Ability to Identify types/sizes of conductor and to handle delicate conductor types.
  • Ability to correctly use and maintain the tools of the trade including power tools, test equipment and measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of basic power distribution system
  • Ability to identify different types of fuses.
