Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (RC 638640), is one of the eleven successor distribution companies of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Kaduna Electric, a registered trademark of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, is licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to distribute and retail electricity within a service coverage area of Northwestern-most of Nigeria. It has its Headquarters in Kaduna, with offices in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.

Kaduna Electric is looking to employ young, vibrant professionals to fill the position below in the Engineering and Technical Services department:

Job Title: Team Lead, Power Systems Planning

Job Status: Full-time

Job Summary
  • Coordinate power system studies (Load Flow, Load Forecast, Arc Flash etc,) on the distribution network to determine project viability and effectiveness to the company's objectives, develop best methods for construction activities, and determine the optimal sequence of operations on the construction site and to ensure construction projects are completed within set deadlines, on budget, and in line with all the relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • System planning will be responsible for appraising construction, analyzing the logistics, and managing time, the unit will also provide immediate solutions to potential problems for efficient execution.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct companywide power system planning studies that will add value to the company's operational effectiveness.
  • Properly utilize planning studies and reports to generate project justification and create necessary budget items for approval.
  • Prepare sanction documents for construction of sub-transmission and distribution lines, Injection and distribution substations and coordinates the construction activities for transmitting power from distribution points to consumers.
  • Makes complex electrical computations to determine type and arrangement of circuits, size, type and number of pieces of equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and lightning arresters.
  • Plans layout of pole lines and underground cable and solves problems such as determining height, location, spacing, guying, and insulating of poles.
  • Design cable routes and develop physical layouts including height, spacing and location parameters.
  • Propose cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high efficiency of electrical sub-transmission and distribution systems.
  • Prepare Short and long range power system planning on distribution and sub-transmission systems and assist with transmission planning activities
  • Monitor system reliability and performance, and provide process improvements that will improve on these areas.
  • Forecasting load growth by areas.
  • Plan, Design, and Model all necessary aspects of secondary network system
  • Performing distribution circuit analysis for loading, voltage, reactive power, reliability, balancing and coordination.
Experience and Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Master's Degree /or Certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 year cognate experience
  • Registered Engineer/Professional Membership (NSE, IET, IEEE etc.) is an added advantage.
Competency and Skill Requirements
  • Excellent understanding of power industry Standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI etc.)
  • Adequate knowledge of MYTO 2 is necessary
  • Familiarity with Power system software tools
  • Be adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments, juggle multiple demands.
  • Strong skills in negotiating, planning, problem solving, and timely problem escalation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
