Location: Jos, Plateau

Details

• The Department of Mathematics, University of Jos, has various research interests covering Group theory, Numerical analysis, Biomathematics and Computational mathematics. The focus of the department with respect to research includes:
  • Development of high order numerical methods for the solution of various types of differential equations
  • Modelling ecological population interaction and the dynamics of infectious diseases with focus on space-structured models
  • Application of computational methods in the solution and simulation of physical problems.

The Conditions

• Applicants must be distinguished Professors in Applied Mathematics with research interest in any of the following disciplines: Biomathematics, Mathematical Modelling and Computational Mathematics, each candidate must produce evidence of:
  • A Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from a reputable University
  • Scholarship in teaching research and publications
  • Administrative and academic leadership in research and postgraduate supervision
  • Competence in at least one of the following Mathematical software: MATLAB, Maple, Mathematica etc.
• The successful applicants are expected to lead research in their areas of specialization, supervise postgraduate students as well as teach relevant courses at both undergraduate and post graduate levels.

Conditions of Service

• The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial period of three years and could be re-appointed for an additional period of two years, subject to satisfactory performance.
• The remuneration of the Chair Professor as approved by the endowment management committee will be the current salary of a professor and a 60% markup to support the activities of the Chair such as research, conference attendance, journal subscription. Travels, technical and secretarial services, etc.
