Nigeria Immigration Service - About 9,000 applicants at the weekend undertook a computer-based screening and aptitude test for employment into the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Ahmadu Bello University's Iya Abubakar Computer Centre.

Assisting Comptroller General of Immigration in charge of Zone B, comprising Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Sokoto States, Mohammed D. Argungun, made this known, saying that the Service conceived the idea of the e-examination in order to attain efficiency.

"As you can see, because of the effective arrangements that were put in place, they are orderly. We screened and conducted test for 1,800 applicants every day, and we did that for five days. We decided to select ABU because of the facilities available. The initial venue for this test was somewhere in Kaduna, but we discovered that they don’t have the required facilities," Argungun said.

In his remarks, Comptroller of the service in Kaduna, Nuhu Apan Takun, said the use of technology aided the screening exercise easy.

"The applicants were shortlisted and were given dates for the e-examination. They were thoroughly screened to avoid any security breach. They were accredited online to ensure that they were the applicants that were shortlisted. That was done by the data they provided at the point of application. After that, they were moved to the examination hall. Every applicant was given one hour to answer questions online on three subject; English, Mathematics and Current Affairs," Takun said.
