Halcom Management Services (HMS) - Our client, an international standard, multi-speciality, acute hospital located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2024. Facilities and services provided include: emergency care, surgical, medical, internal medicine, family medicine, renal care, gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatrics, pathology, physiotherapy radiology and pharmacy. Skilled and professional staff form the foundation of a well-run hospital. Summary of Responsibilities

• To ensure that the hospital is in compliance and adheres to occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines by ensuring a safe and compliant healthcare environment thereby protecting the well-being of patients, visitors and staff. 
• Responsible for developing, planning, implementing and overseeing company’s employee safety at work to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.
• This role plays a critical part in minimizing risks, preventing accidents, and promoting a culture of safety within the hospital.
• Developing and implementing safety programs, conducting audits, and promoting safety education, ensuring the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality care in a secure environment.

Job Requirements

• WASSCE/SSCE or equivalent
• Certificate / Diploma or higher in occupational health and safety management, or relevant field
• Professional qualification (NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, OSHA or better) in Health and Safety is desirable. 
• Proven experience as Health and Safety officer or similar role, preferably in a healthcare environment
• In depth knowledge of legislation, healthcare safety regulations and standards. (e.g. OSHA/EPA) and procedures
• Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
• Experience in writing reports and policies and procedures for health and safety
• Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
• Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Diligent with great attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
