Job Description
The holder of this position will facilitate the procurement of materials; structure, piping/fittings, package and related services required by the company. This position will oversee the materials/planning function and will have sole ownership of material flow, long term supply contracts, supplier negotiation, and production floor planning/scheduling.
This will include responsibility for profitability, inventory levels, capacity planning, on-time shipment, and cost control. Will collaborate closely with Sales and Business Operations within the assigned Divisions to support the company's overall growth plan.
- Negotiate contracts for the procurement of required materials; structure, piping/fittings, package and services from approved suppliers.
- Establish strategies to improve supply chain, solve shortage issues and strengthen supplier relationships
- Obtain materials, components and equipment, as required by the production schedule
- Plan, schedule, monitor the movement of materials through the development, prototype and production cycle
- Expedite orders as necessary. Identify actual and potential delivery problems and take proactive steps to inform appropriate personnel
- Establish and maintain relations with suppliers and appropriate representatives and direct and procure supplier technical and operating expertise as required to internal customer
- Maintain an awareness of materials and procurement concepts
- Develop written procedures for routine job responsibilities and keep them current
- Identify problem areas and offer possible solutions
- Complete special assignments for the Materials department as directed by the Materials Manager
- Track progress of parts to ensure time schedules and delivery to Systems
- Work with engineering on new product introductions, including early supplier involvement
- Implement improvement processes to reduce inventory and non-value added work
- Perform supplier audits, supplier selection and ongoing rating
- Continually assess market conditions which may affect procurement and recommend procurement and materials management strategy changes
- Control incoming freight and handling costs
- Monitors, analyzes, and reports material variances to standard cost. Interfaces with Accounting, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production to establish standard costs.
- Responsible for optimizing material costs through vendor analysis, quality, schedule, cost evaluation, etc. Applies cost effective measures as related to support standard cost and make/buy decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing/Business management or any related field.
- A minimum of 8 years experience in a similar position.
- Experience with ERP systems and good supplier communication skills.
- Working experience with above average oral and written skills, French speaking an advantage.
- Work independently, establish priorities and make decisions.
- Interact effectively with people from various backgrounds.
