IITA is an international non-profit agricultural research-for-development (R4D) organization established in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and a member of the CGIAR Consortium. Background and Responsibilities
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Coordinate all seed production activities in the USIAD-funded Seed Scaling Project
- Carry out purification activities and varietal maintenance of improved/ released rice varieties in Nigeria
- Multiply breeder and foundation seed of improved rice varieties for private sectors including private seed companies and universities
- Prepare and develop training and extension materials on seed production and handling for technicians, seed out growers and farmers;
- Facilitate timely packaging, delivery and marketing of improved seeds to consortium of seed companies;
- Undertake any other professional duties as needs arise within AfricaRice.
Qualification and Experience
- M.Sc. in Seed Technology/Plant Breeding, Agronomy and any related field with adequate experience in rice breeding and foundation seed production and demonstrated skills in seed purification and storage.
