Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia - The MRC Unit The Gambia at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of two research units established in sub- Saharan Africa by the Medical Research Council UK and is the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM’s single largest investment in medical research in a low and middle income country. MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM represents a unique concentration of scientific expertise and high quality research platforms in the West African region.

The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine invites applications from African citizens resident and working at African-based research institutions for its full-time PhD studentship in the below projects:

Title: MRCG at LSHTM Doctoral Training Program Scholarship

Project: Health system and population readiness for digital diagnostics in reproductive health in The Gambia, West Africa (Primary Supervisor, Professor Julie Balen).

Details

  • Project main supervisor: Professor Julie Balen, Honorary Senior Researcher at MRC Gambia at the LSHTM
  • The studentship starts as soon as the recruitment is done, and will be full-time for four years, involving collaboration with the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at LSHTM and Canterbury Christ Church University, UK.
  • Full financial support will be provided.

Eligibility Requirements
Essential:

  • MPH/MSc in Global Health, Public Health, Digital Health, Reproductive Health, Health Management, International Development and/or another related programme Expertise in qualitative and/or mixed methods research
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis and analysis packages (e.g. NVIVO, STATA)
  • Background/experience in reproductive health technology, digital innovations Ability to work well with others
