The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the position below in the General Services Office (GSO):

Job Title:
Boat Pilot

Position Grade: FSN-02/FP-CC
Location: Lagos
Work Hours: Full-time; 48 hours/week

Basic Function of the position

  • The incumbent operates and pilots U.S. Government boats and maintains the boat engines and other boat equipment.
  • It is the operators' responsibility to ensure the boat is seaworthy and in safe operating condition prior to leaving the dock.
  • The operator will inspect the boat and determine that all required operational and safety equipment is on board and in proper working condition.
  • He/she must verify that all safety rules including proper distribution of weight, and regulations pertaining to boat usage are adhered to, and report any violations to the General Services Office immediately.
Position Requirements
Note:

  • Completion of Primary School (Basic literacy) is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional boat piloting experience on Lagos coast and near offshore waters is required.
  • Knowledge of boat and outboard motor operation and maintenance is required.
  • Level II (Limited knowledge) written and oral English is required. Level III (Good working knowledge) of any local language is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of Lagos Lagoon, creaks, and near offshore waters is required.
  • Must have current local boat piloting license. Must be able to swim 50 meters continuously in open water.
Selection Process
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an overall summary rating of "Needs Improvement" or "Unsatisfactory" on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

Or - Ordinarily Resident - N2,091,206
p.a. (Starting basic salary) Position Grade: FSN-02
In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.
Nor - Not Ordinarily Resident - AEFM - US$20,217 EFM/MOH (Starting Salary) per annum
