Job Title: Warehouse Technical Assistant and Clerk of Works

Overview of Position

  • Working under the overall coordination with Yola Head of Office, with guidance from Shelter Project Officers (shelter / NFI & shelter / site planning) & the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for quality control & reporting materials delivered at both constructions sites & our clients warehouse throughout project locations, as well as supporting with any technical issues to support the shelter & NFI team, as well as provide support to any other unit that might require technical assistance with construction related or activities.

Role Objectives
In particular, s / he will:

  • Measuring quantity & quality check of materials supplied to warehouse / site to ensure it conform with the purchase order.
  • Weekly reporting based on the movement of warehouse to site & tracking of deliveries to site.
  • Keep detailed logbooks for storage items in the warehouse & construction site.
  • Filing of check reports that are received & sent to the site.
  • Tracking of cargo distribution to ensure conformity with itinerary movement.
  • Tracking of waybill documents for shelter materials.
  • Verify the loading & offloading of materials transported to the construction sites.
  • Assist in estimating the required standard truck size required for the transportation of specified quantity of kits or materials.
  • Assist in maintaining records at the construction site in an orderly manner.
  • Conduct physical inventory of items in the warehouse / site & provide updates on the inventory records upon completing each activity.
  • Conduct any market assessment for construction materials to update current market specifications.
  • Coordinate internally with relevant units & with external stakeholders in field locations.
  • Use stock tracking tools for stock movements.
  • Maintain a systematic record of all documents related to a project, reports / pictures, etc.
  • Assist in planning & implementation of distributions, conducting assessments of distribution sites, storage locations, logistical requirements, etc.
  • Travel to field locations regularly to monitor the quality of materials supplied.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.

Project Reporting:

  • This role works under the overall coordination with Yola Head of Office, with guidance from Shelter Project Officers (shelter / NFI & shelter / site planning) & the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant.

Team Management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Building Or Civil Engineering or from any technical field (essential).
  • Sector experience: Minimum of 2 years of demonstrable relevant shelter, NFI & construction experience (essential).
  • Geographical experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Africa (essential).

Languages:

  • Fluent in English (essential).
  • Fluent in Hausa (essential).
  • Fluent in Pidgin (desirable).
  • Fluent in Fulfulbe (desirable).

Key Competencies:

  • Minimum of Diploma level education in Quantity Surveying, Building Or Civil Engineering or from any technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in shelter, NFI & construction preferably in humanitarian context.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work in warehouse management preferably in humanitarian field will be an advantage.
  • A sound knowledge of the building industry, local construction techniques & materials.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, as well as GPS devices.
  • Ability to carry out technical volumetric calculations & linear calculations.
  • Ability to use measuring tools / instruments like the micrometer screw gauge, vernier caliper, weighing scale & measuring tape.
  • Ability to work quickly & accurately pay attention to detail.
  • Willingness to assist efficiently in a very busy project environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines & work under pressure.
  • Ability to present clear & concise information & good written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively & harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures & professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to understand shelter design & bill of quantity.
  • Fluency in English & Hausa is required & Pidgin & Fulfulde is desired.
