Job Title: Head, Finance (IFRS Expertise)

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting Line: Executive Director
Grade: Senior Management Grade

Overview of Position

  • We are seeking an accomplished and strategic financial leader with a minimum of 15 years of experience to join our executive team as the Head of Finance.
  • The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy of the organization and ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • As the Head of Finance, you will provide strategic financial guidance, lead financial planning and analysis, and contribute to the overall success and growth of the company.
  • To be successful in this role, you should have experience crafting financial strategies and managing accounting teams.

Responsibilities
Financial Strategy:

  • Develop and implement the financial strategy of the organization in alignment with business objectives.
  • Provide leadership in financial decision-making and contribute to the overall strategic planning process.
  • Approve or reject budgets
  • Evaluate and decide on investments

IFRS Compliance:

  • Possess and apply advanced knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Ensure the organization's financial reporting is in full compliance with IFRS guidelines.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):

  • Lead the FP&A function, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance financial performance.
  • Forecast monthly, quarterly and annual results
  • Recommend cost-reducing solutions

Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Conduct profit and cost analyses

Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and manage financial risks.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the financial stability of the organization.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Implement effective cash flow management strategies to optimize working capital and ensure liquidity for ongoing operations.
  • Allocate resources and manage cash flows

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Provide guidance on career development and training opportunities.
  • Supervise a team of Accountants
  • Ensure all accounting activities and internal audits comply with financial regulations

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate financial performance and forecasts to key stakeholders, including the executive team, board of directors, and external partners.
  • Develop secure procedures to maintain confidential information
  • Attend board meetings, managing senior stakeholders, delivering commercial insight to help increase profitability and maintain growth
  • Consult board members about funding options

Tax Planning:

  • Collaborate with tax professionals to develop tax-efficient strategies and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Liaise with regulators and Tax Bureau and take full responsibility for accurately preparing and timely submitting all relevant fillings/reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. MBA or advanced certification e.g. CFA, ACCA, CPA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 5 years in a senior management position.
  • Proven expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with a track record of ensuring compliance in a complex business environment.
  • In-depth understanding of cash flow management, bank reconciliation and bookkeeping.
  • Hands-on experience with budgeting and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and contribute to the development and execution of organizational strategies.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a high-performing finance team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; Ability to communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
