We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Social Development Specialist

Location: Nigeria

Responsibilities

  • Draft the Volume covering social aspects of the proposed highway design manual.
  • Analyse relevant laws and regulations vis-à-vis IFI’s involuntary resettlement safeguard requirements, as described in the IFI’s Safeguard Policy Statements (SPS), and recommend gap-filling measures as needed.
  • Identify potential land acquisition and resettlement (LAR) impacts of proposed highway construction projects and define the necessary preparatory surveys required (inventory of loss, socioeconomic survey of project-affected households, valuation survey).
  • Outline the approach for reparation of land acquisition and resettlement plans (LARP) in accordance with IFI’s SPS.
  • Describe the approach for conducting meaningful consultations with affected households and other relevant stakeholders. Consult with the West African government agencies responsible for resettlement.
  • Draft a chapter on minimum advisory services to executing agencies, participating local government(s), and implementing agencies on SPS requirements and procedures.
  • Describe the approach for conducting gender analysis, including meeting with women residing or working along the project roads, identify their livelihoods needs and potential project design elements to address gender equity issues.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Community Development, Anthropology, or Sociology.
  • General experience in Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) preparation, implementation and addressing resettlement issues for development projects.
  • Must have been involved in two (2) projects including resettlement action plan preparation, implementation and addressing resettlement issues for development projects in the last ten (10) years.
  • Must have been involved in two (2) projects comprising resettlement action plan preparation, implementation and addressing resettlement issues for development projects financed by the EU, World Bank, AfDB or similar development agencies in the last ten (10) years.
