About the Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) Project

  • The GC7 project will be implemented in Gombe and Kwara state with the goal of providing end-to-end HIV comprehensive services in the 2 states through client centered facility-community based approaches.
  • In line with Global Fund (GF) strategy of working with and serving the health needs of people and communities to end AIDS, TB and Malaria, SFH will utilize the programme essentials for GC7 which include HIV primary prevention, HIV testing and Diagnosis, elimination of vertical transmission, HIV treatment and care, TB/HIV, Differentiated service delivery, and Gender and Human rights.

Job Description

  • The psychologist on GC7 will offer a wide range of mental health services tailored to meet individual needs. This includes thorough psychological assessments, precise diagnoses, and various forms of therapy for individuals, groups, and families.
  • He/she will assist clients dealing with acute, chronic, or moderate mental health challenges, ensuring they receive the necessary support and guidance.
  • Additionally, he/she will provide case management services, referrals, and ongoing follow-ups to ensure comprehensive care.
  • He/she will also collaborate with external facilities and agencies, offering consultation services to support a holistic approach to mental health.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Diagnose or evaluate mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in OSS and other settings and studies medical and social case histories.
  • Observe patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals with regard to test results.
  • Treat psychological disorders to effect improved adjustments utilizing various psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.
  • Assess patient progress and modifies treatment programs accordingly; communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.
  • Document therapy in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Provide crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment.
  • Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
  • Must possess minimum of 3 years’ post-NYSC experience in psychology
  • Basic Knowledge of HIV program

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant current special education methodologies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client.
  • Interviewing and psychological/developmental evaluation skills.
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to assess mental status in clients and to develop individual treatment goals and plans.
  • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
  • Experience with and proven ability to work with Key and general populations
