Job Title: Consultant - Translation of GANC Manuals

Location: Lagos (Remote)
Duration and Timeline: The consultancy is for a duration of 10 days.
Grant duration: Subject to availability of funds and exceptional grant performance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The consultant will be expected to achieve the following objectives:

  • Read materials and Research specific terminology
  • Convert text from English to Yoruba/ Pidgin
  • Ensure translated texts conveys original meaning and tone
  • The consultant will undertake the following tasks:
  • Read given materials (Facilitators guide, Picture cards, New Mothers Booklets and PNC materials) and understand the contents.
  • Cross -reference specialized dictionaries to check specific terminology
  • Convert English text to Yoruba/Pidgin
  • Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
  • Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy
  • Submit 1st draft to G-ANC team to ensure translation meets their needs
  • Support with pretest of some of the contents with clients to ensure translation meets their needs
  • Edit content, maintain the original format (font and structure)
  • Submit final and completed work to G-ANC team
  • The consultant will be expected to deliver the following:
  • Provide high -quality translated document that conveys the same message as in the original version (English version)
  • Edit document for grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Share edited document with the team for first level review
  • Pretest document with clients (end users)
  • Incorporate feedback from team/clients and reshare edited version for second level review
  • Edit and reshare final version
  • Submit final version to the team upon completion of assignment.

Qualifications & Experience
The consultant should possess the following qualifications:

  • BSc in translation or similar field
  • Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus.
  • Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter or similar role
  • Fluency in English, Yoruba and Pidgin
  • Excellent proofreading skills with ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
  • Good knowledge of content editing tools
  • Time -management skills
