Job Title: Credit Risk Manager

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • As a Credit Risk Manager specializing in the energy sector, you will play a critical role in assessing and managing credit risks associated with energy-related transactions and counterparties. This position requires a deep understanding of the energy industry, financial analysis, and risk mitigation strategies. The Credit Risk Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, financial institutions, and energy market participants to ensure effective credit risk management in the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities
Credit Risk Assessment:

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of energy sector counterparties, including utilities, renewable energy companies, and energy trading partners.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, industry research, and risk profiling to assess credit risks associated with proposed transactions.

Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Monitor and analyze the credit risk exposure of the energy portfolio, identifyingpotential risks and opportunities. Implement early warning systems and key performance indicators to track credit risk trend

Credit Policies and Procedures:

  • Develop and maintain credit policies and procedures specific to the energy sector.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Credit Risk Mitigation:

  • Propose and implement credit risk mitigation strategies, such as collateral requirements, credit enhancements, and risk transfer mechanisms.
  • Negotiate credit terms and conditions to minimize exposure and protect the organization's interests.

Collaboration with Energy Market Participants:

  • Engage with energy market participants, including power producers, renewableenergy developers, and financial institutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key industry players to stay informed about market trends and credit risk factors.

Due Diligence:

  • Conduct due diligence on potential clients, counterparties, and projects to assess credit risk and financial viability.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure due diligence processes align with regulatory requirements.

Credit Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare and present credit risk reports to senior management, highlighting key risks and recommended actions. Maintain accurate documentation of credit analyses, decisions, and ongoing monitoring activities

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay abreast of relevant regulations and market developments affecting the energy sector

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in credit risk management, with a focus on the energy sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy markets, including power generation, renewables, and energy trading.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing the energy industry.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team.
