We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Mining Laboratory Scientist

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Responsibilities
Sample Collection:

  • Receive and process ore samples from mining sites.
  • Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and storage of samples.

Laboratory Testing:

  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests and analyses on mining samples using specialized equipment and instruments.
  • Conduct tests to determine the mineral composition, grade, and quality of samples.

Chemical Analysis:

  • Perform chemical analyses, including wet chemistry and instrumental methods, to assess the concentration of minerals and elements in samples.

Mineral Identification:

  • Use microscopy and other techniques to identify and classify minerals present in samples.

Quality Control:

  • Implement quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.

Data Recording:

  • Record and document laboratory test results accurately.
  • Maintain organized and detailed records of all analyses performed.

Report Generation:

  • Prepare detailed laboratory reports summarizing test results.
  • Communicate findings to relevant stakeholders, including geologists and mining engineers.

Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the laboratory.
  • Handle and dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with safety guidelines.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with geologists, mining engineers, and other professionals to understand specific testing requirements.
  • Provide input on sample collection methods to ensure accurate analysis.

Instrument Maintenance:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors for instrument repairs and calibration.

Environmental Analysis:

  • Conduct environmental analyses, such as assessing water quality and identifying potential environmental impacts of mining activities.

Qualifications
Education:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Geology, or a related field.

Laboratory Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in a mining or mineral processing context.

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting laboratory data and identifying trends.

Instrumentation Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and analytical techniques.

Safety Training:

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.

Communication Skills:

  • Effective communication skills to convey laboratory findings and collaborate with other professionals.

Detail-Oriented:

  • Attention to detail in sample handling, testing procedures, and record-keeping.

Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and address issues that may arise during laboratory analyses.
