The Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) is a stakeholder in the effective and efficient dispute resolution of commercial disputes both in Nigeria and internationally. As a key component of the dispute resolution industry, LCA seeks to provide automation and easy access to service users in Nigeria.

The Lagos Court of Arbitration is seeking a Head of External Relations and Policy Advocacy to provide leadership and managerial oversight of LCA's external communications, research and policy advocacy functions in pursuit of LCA's strategic goals.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Head, External Relations and Policy Advocacy

Location:
Lagos

Scope of Work
  • The Head, External Relations and Policy Advocacy will facilitate the design and implementation of effective business development/marketing strategies, aimed at enhancing LCA's brand equity and ultimately increasing its revenue generation capacity.
In addition:
  • Overall responsibility for LCA's marketing initiatives, publications and events such as conferences and seminars.
  • Develop and implement operational work programmes, including a detailed marketing plan, for the department in line with LCA's overall corporate strategy.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with the international I regional/local media (print and broadcast) to deliver LCA's messages and serve as key media contact for the LCA.
  • Engage with the public and private sector- in Nigeria and abroad to drive the uptake of arbitration services in Nigeria.
  • Develop new concepts and ideas to extend understanding, inform policy and improve the practice of arbitration and ADR in Nigeria.
  • Assess, interpret and evaluate the outcomes of research activities.
  • Ensure the connection between LCA's policy and advocacy activities and its marketing and external relation functions.
  • Coordinate research and development activities, including the publication of thought leadership articles and opinions in reputable journals and magazines.
  • Manage relationships with all stakeholders and identify new business opportunities and alliances for the LCA.
  • Represent LCA at ADR seminars and conferences, as required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Secretary.
Qualifications
  • First degree or its equivalent in the legal field
  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in external relations, marketing, communications or advocacy of which three (3) years must have been at management level
  • ADR experience preferred
Skills and Competency Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of key issues and trends within the arbitration sector.
  • Good understanding of the operations of an arbitration institution.
  • Well honed skills to persuade, influence and negotiate and also to manage and sustain effective, successful relationships both internally and externally.
  • Good project management and organization skills.
  • Excellent entrepreneurial orientation.
  • Excellent leadership/supervisory and people management skills.
Key Performance Indicator:
  • Brand perception relative to competitors.
  • Percentage increase in client and membership base.
  • Number of new business opportunities and alliances.
  • Detailed implementation of departments work programmes.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of management information and reports.
  • Number of articles and LCA journals published annually.
