Job Title: Head, Media Relations / Internal Communications

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Group Head, Corporate Communications, the ideal candidate will be responsible for activities to develop and implement media/external relations strategies and manage the interface with the media

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish beneficial contact with media houses in support of the company's corporate goals and objectives
  • Review draft articles, conference papers, speeches prepared for publication, press briefings, conferences and other related events
  • Ensure the adequacy of media coverage at the company's internal and external activities
  • Ensure that Executive Management team timeously receive daily media summaries of relevant company and industry developments
  • Proactively engage the media to avoid negative publicity
  • Participate in conflict resolution process to appropriately project the company's corporate image
  • Ensure the availability of up-to-date information (i.e. the note of a databank) of information from newspapers, magazines, articles that may be of importance to the company.
  • Ensure the prompt circulation of information from Head Office, to all staff via the intranet/portal
  • Liaise with units/groups to understand information requirement and give advice on effective presentation.
  • Ensure minimal communication gap/lag between Management and all staff on new standards, policies, procedures etc.
  • To edit/produce and plan house journal: Develop content and ensure effective and timely publication.
  • Monitor staff trends and attitude towards management and make recommendations to Group Head on programs to endear staff to management and vice versa.
  • Ensure that published content does not violate copyright laws
  • Write copy for house magazine, staff intranet, email communication, social media handles, and other internal and external communication platforms.
  • Devise and implement internal communication campaigns that support the company's key objectives.

Requirements
The Ideal Candidates:

  • Candidates must possess good Honours Degree from a recognized university in Social Sciences, Arts, Humanities, or other relevant fields.
  • Candidates must have cumulative experience of more than 8 years experience in similar or related capacity, with demonstrable track record of credible performance.
  • Candidates should have the drive to work independently on a wide range of their department's issues.
  • Candidate should be exceptionally strong in oral and written communication. Relevant experience working in the media and/or PR Consultancy; or experience in a similar role in structured organisations, would be an added advantage.
