Job Description
- We are seeking a professional Environmental / Social Safeguard Specialist to join our team on an on-going USAID funded Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Activity (LUWASH) project in Nigeria.
- The objective of this project is to support our Client, The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), in the expansion and improvement of urban WASH service delivery and infrastructure through strengthened governance, increased accountability, and improved financial and technical capabilities of public water utilities and private sector providers.
Duties
- Assist the team lead and expat Safeguard Specialist and team in reviewing project documents including Safeguard documents.
- Contribute to incorporating best Safeguard practices during the reconstruction/rehabilitation design/review process.
- Monitor and guide the local staff and the contractors on Environmental and Social safeguard practices and requirements under the contract during the construction and operation period.
- Provide on-ground training and organize meetings with the key stakeholders under the guidance of the team lead on issues related to Environmental and Safeguard compliances.
- Contribute to monthly reports on Environmental and Social Safeguard compliances.
- Any other task as directed by the CoP /management to meet the project requirements.
Qualifications
General Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or a relevant field
- 10 years of experience as an Environmental and Social Safeguard Specialist on related WASH projects including 3 years in Urban WASH projects.
- Familiar with local laws and USAID guidelines related to Environmental and Social Safeguard compliances.
- Prior experience on Donor funded projects such as USAID/UN/JICA is desirable
