Composite Building is a leading Building and Construction company based in Lagos with interest in Real Estate (residential, commercial, or industrial).

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Construction Site Safety Officer

Ref: C-SSO
Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company standards.
  • Conducting regular safety inspections and audits of the construction site to identify hazards and potential risks.
  • Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to address safety concerns and develop corrective actions.
  • Providing safety training and orientation for new hires and subcontractors, as well as ongoing safety education for all personnel on-site.
  • Monitoring and enforcing the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
  • Investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, and documenting findings to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintaining accurate records of safety-related activities, including inspections, training sessions, and incident reports.
  • Conducting toolbox talks and safety meetings to communicate safety updates, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Reviewing and approving subcontractors' safety plans and ensuring compliance with contractual safety requirements.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries, concerns, and emergencies on the construction site.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a safety officer in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate safety-related information to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on proactive risk mitigation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to different construction sites as needed.
