Job Title: School Matron

Summary

  • We are seeking a caring and experienced School Matron to join our dedicated team and play a vital role in the health and well-being of our secondary school students. You will lead the healthcare team, supervise the hostel and kitchen operations, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Responsibilities
Healthcare:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the school health center.
  • Provide first aid and basic medical care to students with minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Monitor student health trends and identify potential outbreaks.
  • Administer medication as prescribed by doctors.
  • Maintain accurate medical records for all students.
  • Liaise with parents/guardians and healthcare professionals regarding student health concerns.
  • Develop and implement health education programs for students.

Hostel Supervision:

  • Lead the team responsible for the smooth running of the school hostels.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students residing in the hostels.
  • Enforce hostel rules and regulations.
  • Conduct regular room checks and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Provide pastoral care and support to students residing in the hostels.
  • Organize social activities and events for hostel residents.

Kitchen Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school kitchen.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
  • Manage and maintain kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Develop and implement healthy and nutritious meal plans for students.
  • Liaise with catering staff or kitchen assistants.
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of food and supplies.

General:

  • Contribute to a positive and supportive school environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student health and welfare information.
  • Attend relevant training courses to stay up-to-date with first aid procedures and child protection policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other school staff, including teachers, nurses, and counselors.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification or equivalent medical training.
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a school or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Calm and patient demeanor with a genuine interest in student well-being.
  • First aid certification is mandatory.
  • Food hygiene training is desirable.
