Job Summary

  • The client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Lead (Gender and Community Building) to join the team for a donor-funded project on Opportunities to Improve Nutrition through Processing and Preservation in Nigeria.
  • This role is pivotal in ensuring that gender mainstreaming and community engagement efforts are effectively integrated into project activities to achieve desired outcomes.

Responsibilities
Gender Mainstreaming:

  • Lead the integration of gender-sensitive approaches into all project activities, ensuring that they effectively address gender disparities and promote women's empowerment.
  • Collaborate with the project team to develop and implement gender-responsive strategies and interventions, with a focus on enhancing women's participation and leadership in the food processing sector.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on gender-related issues to project staff and partners, including conducting gender analyses and designing gender-sensitive monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  • Monitor and evaluate the gender-related outcomes of project activities, collecting data to measure progress towards project goals and objectives.

Intervention Lead / Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the intervention lead for the Mentoring and Community Building project intervention to address the societal barrier that female employers and employees face.
  • Facilitate dialogue and collaboration with community stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to foster an enabling environment for women's economic empowerment.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and community meetings to build the capacity of community members, especially women, on topics related to gender equality, nutrition, and food security.

Partnership Development:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local NGOs, women's groups, and government agencies, to leverage resources and support for project activities.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership with other organizations working on gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives in Nigeria.
  • Represent the company at relevant forums, conferences, and events to promote the organization's gender-focused work and contribute to knowledge-sharing and advocacy efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Gender Studies, International Development, Sociology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in gender mainstreaming, women's empowerment, and community development, preferably within the agriculture or nutrition sector in Nigeria.
  • Strong understanding of gender dynamics and cultural contexts in Nigeria, with experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with project beneficiaries and partners.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to promoting gender equality, women's empowerment, and social inclusion.
