Team Purpose

  • The Kano state team will lead the implementation of the GANC deployment funded by BMGF through TA Connect.
  • The team will be required to ensure the translation of the project goals and objectives into actionable and innovative outputs that will optimize performance.
  • This will be hinged on system thinking, capacity building, innovation, competitiveness, and scientifically proven, evidenced-based programming anchored by dynamic and committed professionals in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Working closely with the OPTIONS UK and Kano State Government actors, the team will be responsible for ensuring the deployment completes the desired training and technical assistance activities within the timeline of the grant and with fidelity to global best practices and international standards in line with funders’ requirements.

Job Purpose

  • The incumbent will be a seasoned health professional with documented experience and capacity to lead and coordinate training/capacity building activities for various categories of trainings across the State and the documentation of critical outputs from engagement with critical stakeholders.
  • He/she is responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring expanded GANC/PNC implementation activities in Kano state.
  • S/he will support the Kano state government to carry out the rapid assessment and activation of designated GANC/PNC sites, supporting capacity building, and developing implementation plans to enroll more women into GANC/PNC clinics.
  • They must also provide leadership on RMNCAH+N high impact interventions, gender and culturally sensitive approaches to improve uptake and access to GANC/PNC services, technical support in developing and implementing strategies, and technical assistance to strengthen linkages between sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health services, and GBV intervention and community awareness programs.
  • They must also provide medical and technical expertise for RMNCAH+N scale up, strengthen in-facility service provision of nutritional screening and immunization support, contributing to the development of guidelines and standards to support program implementation.
  • This role will require close collaboration with the state activities for improving the health and wellbeing of priority populations in the state.
  • The Capacity Building Lead will also lead technical, programmatic and administrative support to the grant, including but not limited to technical writing, data analysis, facilitating financial requests and ensuring the judicious use of all available resources with the submission of timely and concise reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Kano GANC Capacity Building Lead will provide technical oversight to all aspects of grant implementation including rapid site assessments, site activation, capacity building, quality improvement activities and documentation of implementation outputs.
  • Will provide technical support for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities, strategies and policies around RMNCAH+N with particular focus on integrating post GBV support services into maternal and child health in designated sites across Kano state.
  • The incumbent will provide lead strategic state engagement, resource allocation, development of monthly and quarterly workplans and performance monitoring in conjunction with the OPTIONS GANC lead for Kano.
  • The project lead will ensure the grant enjoys a high level of stakeholder engagement and support by providing high level coordination and engagement with the Kano State Ministry of Health (KSMoH), the Kano State Primary Health Care Board (KSPHCB), Community gatekeepers, religious leaders and other key stakeholders for smooth implementation.
  • The Capacity Building Lead will oversee the administrative aspects of state implementation of the grant including developing logistic plans and ensuring timely retirements of financial transactions, leading partnership and networking collaboratives for sustainable resource mobilization and accountable allocation of funds for optimal program achievements.
  • He/She will ensure routine analysis and utilization of gender disaggregated data to identify gaps in access and uptake to ultimately improve service delivery of high impact interventions for GANC/PNC models of care in Kano state.
  • The Kano GANC Capacity Building Lead will provide technical supervision state-led cohesive approaches and interventions geared towards holistic improvement of maternal and newborn outcomes in Kano State in line with the state RMNCAH+N priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned as necessitated by program needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Seasoned health professional with an advanced Degree in Nursing / Midwifery, Medicine, or related Public Health field.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ post NYSC clinical experience in RMNCAH Experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory, management or leadership responsibilities.
  • Robust clinical experience in maternal and child health service provision in Nigeria.
  • Work experience and familiarity with GoN structures in Kano state will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent grasp of clinical issues and current literature in providing group Antenatal and Post Natal Care Services
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills including the ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action.
  • Superior proficiency in the use of Microsoft office applications and remote conferencing software.
  • Comfortable and proficient in coordinating and facilitating training and capacity building exercises.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Ability to speak a Hausa, Arabic or French will be an added advantage.
