WaterAid is an international non-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people break free from poverty and disease, unlock their potential and change their lives for good through improved access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. WaterAid started its operation in Nigeria in 1995. Since then it has successfully executed several intervention programmes as outlined by its objectives and has made impact in the lives of the very poor. WaterAid with the country office in Abuja currently works in Bauchi, Enugu and Plateau States with funding from various donors and partners.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: WASH Manager - Microsoft Project
Location: Lagos
Responsibilities
- In this role, you will support the delivery of the Microsoft- funded Lagos Peri-Urban Water and Sanitation Improvement Project A.
- The post holder will support planning, strategic implementation approaches, WASH service delivery including urban sanitation, documentation of WASH policy implementation and dialogues, influencing and advocacy priorities of WaterAid Nigeria (WANG) at the national and state level
You'll also:
- Lead initiatives for the promotion of community capacity for preparedness and response to water-related shocks and stresses.
- Facilitate the implementation of activities that reinforce hygiene behaviour change in communities and institutions.
- Initiate technological innovations and deploy options to be used for water facility functionality monitoring and sustainability checks.
- Ensure that WaterAid Nigeria WASH Programme delivery at the field level is designed to positively impact the building of better WASH systems and generate replicable results that can be profiled to contribute to universal access for Nigeria.
- Document and share learning on WASH policy issues and civil society engagement, citizenship engagement/empowerment, rights of stakeholders, gender, equity and inclusion.
- Represent WaterAid through participation in meetings, seminars and other strategic/important events that support achievement of WaterAid goals at state levels.
Requirements
To be successful, you'll need to meet the following criteria:
- Must have a University Degree in Civil / Water Resources Engineering, Geology, Development studies, Environmental/Public Health or the Social Sciences or related fields. A Master's degree in Public Health, Water Resources and any of Project Management, international development /, human rights, sociology, public policy or political science will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience of which at least 3 must be in the area of WASH Programme/project management, water supply or sanitation, community management policy development and advocacy with any reputable national/ international/ donor agency.
- Experience in developing strategic & operational plans. Able to effectively organise self and others, plan and prioritise in line with such plans.
- Excellent relationship building skills. Able to build and maintain trusting relationships, negotiate, influence and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with multi-level stakeholders including donor representatives, government officials and community level actors.
- Experience of working in, and solid understanding of the Nigerian WASH Sector.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and ability to effectively convey information and ideas verbally and in writing.
