Our flagship product, Klasha Business, enables international merchants to seamlessly accept payments from Africa using local payment methods and currencies, with payouts in hard currencies. Additionally, B2B African merchants can leverage Klasha to conduct cross-border transactions globally. Our consumer-facing product, Klasha Personal, empowers African consumers to shop and spend cross-border through an app, utilising African money methods and currencies. Our vision is to provide frictionless access to goods for African consumers, transcending geographical boundaries and transacting in African currencies and payment methods.

About the role

  • The VP of Product Engineering will provide strong technical leadership to the software engineers and product managers. We are looking for a hands-on leader who is solution-oriented and resourceful.

Job Description

  • Technical Leadership: Provide strong technical leadership by setting the vision, strategy, and direction for the engineering team. Guide the team in making sound technical decisions aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Team Management: Manage and mentor a small team of engineers and product managers, providing guidance, support, and resources needed for their professional growth and development. Encourage collaboration, creativity, and accountability within the team.
  • Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate engineering and product resources to maximize productivity and meet project deadlines. Prioritize tasks and projects based on business priorities, customer needs, and resource constraints.
  • Product Delivery: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, and timelines. Ensure that engineering efforts are aligned with business objectives and customer needs, delivering value in a timely manner.
  • Technical Architecture: Define and evolve the technical architecture of the our products and platforms, considering scalability, security, and performance requirements. Make informed decisions on technology stack, frameworks, and infrastructure.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish quality standards, best practices, and processes to ensure the reliability, security, and maintainability of software systems. Implement testing strategies, code reviews, and continuous integration/delivery pipelines.
  • Hands-on Assistance: Be willing to roll up sleeves and dive into technical issues alongside team members, offering hands-on assistance and expertise where needed. Lead by example in demonstrating a proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats to the system. Implement robust security measures, controls, and protocols to mitigate risks and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of financial and user data
  • Scalability and Growth: Anticipate future growth and scalability challenges, and develop strategies to address them proactively. Evaluate new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure that engineering practices and processes comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, particularly in the highly regulated fintech sector. Prioritize data security and privacy considerations.

  • Java, React JS, SpringBoot, Eureka, Zuul, PostgreSQL, GitHub, Intelli-j, Postman, Hibernate, Maven, Apache Zookeeper, Apache Kafka, Docker, AWS.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of software development and 4 years of leadership experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in the payments (not just Fintech) industry
  • Strong technical background and expertise in software development and architecting
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills and a strategic mindset
  • Nice to have: At least 2 years of Product management experience
