Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: Asaba, Delta
Employment Type: Full-time

Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

  • To perform phlebotomy technique (venipuncture) and other specimen collection procedures in accordance with SOP's.
  • Draws blood and collects non-blood specimens from patients or clients using the correct and sterile equipment in a manner that will yield the best results
  • Receives, sorts, and refers (where applicable) specimens for testing.
  • Ensures the dispatching of specimens for processing in accordance with prescribed SOPs.
  • Collect, record, and maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, documentation, and reports.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste and hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Report and capture incidents related to sample collection, sorting failures.
  • Ensure timely resolution of queries and responses to customer complaints.
  • Monitors stock levels of all collection materials, including venesection “bleeding” bags and reagents, and orders additional stock to ensure the availability of required materials at all times.
  • To escalate / take appropriate action to resolve client outstanding requests and report incidents to the supervisor.
  • Ensure assigned work area and ambience adhere to the hospital’s standard / brand requirements
  • Perform any other duty as assigned by the head of department.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The candidate must possess an MLT certificate from a recognized institution.
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid laboratory technician license.
  • Have proven experience working as a lab technician.
  • Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment.
  • Comfortable handling potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, biohazards, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and database systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills.
