The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) was established through an Act of the Parliament in 1960 to complement public authorities in humanitarian interventions with the mandate to prevent and alleviate human suffering at times of peace or conflict, and to support individuals and communities to respond effectively to emergencies, without any form of discrimination as to class, gender, race, political opinions or religion.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Divisional Disaster Management Officer

Location: Karasuwa, Yobe

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Divisional Disaster Management (DM) strategy and contingency Plans and Budgets.
  • Coordinate through the Branch DMO, the Divisional relief operations and DM related activities with the Local government and partners.
  • Ensure development and strengthening of robust emergency/disaster response teams at the Division in consultation with Branch Health, WASH/Shelter and other relevant Departments.
  • Ensure DM activities are conducted in accordance with the NRCS code of conduct and principle of transparency and accountability. 
  • Establish an efficient and motivated team of volunteers, and establish systems to ensure retention and capacity building of the volunteers.
  • Ensure regular and accurate record of all volunteers are stored into the VDBM
  • Support regular assessment on emergency response and offer efforts to mobilize assistance internally from NRCS stock and/or from external source including Movement partners. 
  • Through the DS, prepare quarterly and annual progress reports on achievements and challenges incurred

  Duties Applicable to all staff:

  • Actively work towards the achievement of the NRCS goals
  • Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross Fundamental Principles and NRCS Statutes
  • Show capacity to assist other members of staff and management, aptitude for maintaining cooperation and team spirit necessary to achieve the objectives of the National Society
  • Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by Line Manager

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of National Diploma Certificate or relevant University Degree
  • Minimum of 3years’ experience in Disaster Management
