Job Title: Railway Ticketing Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Description

  • As a Railway Ticketing Officer, you will be responsible for facilitating ticketing operations and providing excellent customer service to passengers at railway stations.
  • Your primary focus will be on issuing tickets, handling reservations, resolving inquiries, and ensuring a smooth ticketing process for travelers.

Responsibilities

Ticketing Operations:

  • Issue railway tickets to passengers using computerized ticketing systems.
  • Assist passengers in booking reservations, including seat preferences and travel arrangements.
  • Provide information on train schedules, routes, fares, and availability of tickets.
  • Process ticket cancellations, refunds, and changes as per railway policies.

Customer Service:

  • Greet and assist passengers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Address passenger inquiries related to ticketing, train services, and travel information.
  • Resolve customer complaints or issues regarding tickets, reservations, or service disruptions.
  • Ensure passengers receive accurate and timely information on their travel plans.

Cash Handling and Accounting:

  • Collect cash, credit card payments, or electronic payments for ticket purchases.
  • Maintain accurate records of ticket sales, transactions, and accounting reports.
  • Reconcile cash drawers and balance ticketing transactions at the end of each shift.

Compliance and Regulations:

  • Adhere to railway regulations, policies, and procedures related to ticketing and passenger services.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security protocols at the ticketing counter.
  • Stay updated with railway rules, tariffs, and promotional offers to provide accurate information to passengers.

Team Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with other railway staff, including train operators and station managers, to ensure efficient ticketing operations.
  • Assist in coordinating special arrangements for groups, VIPs, or passengers with specific needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (SSCE / GCE / NECO) or equivalent; additional education or certification in hospitality, tourism, or related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience (1 - 3 years) in customer service or ticketing operations, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Familiarity with computerized ticketing systems and basic computer skills (e.g., data entry, email, internet navigation).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse customers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in handling ticketing transactions and cash.

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle peak periods with efficiency.
  • Knowledge of railway operations, schedules, and ticketing policies.
  • Multilingual skills may be beneficial for assisting international travelers.
  • Customer-oriented approach with a focus on providing exceptional service.
