As Nigeria marks 25 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, the assertion that a home-grown parliamentary system of government is the best alternative to the current presidential system in Nigeria has been the subject of very many commentaries. Proponents of the parliamentary system argue that the system promotes inclusivity, effective representation and accountability all of which are essential for economic, social / political stability and progress. Discuss.
Brief
- The National Essay Competition invites the vibrant youth of Nigeria to engage in a scholarly examination of the country's governance system.
- This national initiative seeks to explore the potential shift from the current presidential system to a home-grown parliamentary system, aiming to foster a deeper understanding among young Nigerians of the structures that underpin democratic processes and governance efficiency in Nigeria.
Eligibility
- Open globally to all Nigerian students in any tertiary institution
- Participants must be currently enrolled in a tertiary institution.
Awards
- Monetary Prizes for the top 100 participants; Educational Grants, Internships and Mentorships Opportunities for a select number of winners to engage with governmental and non-governmental organizations; and Publication Opportunities for exceptional essays.
Criteria for Selection
- Essay will be evaluated based on originality, relevance to the theme, depth of analysis, and clarity of expression. ii. Finalists will be invited to present their essays at a public forum, where they will defend their viewpoints before a live audience and a panel of judges.
Submission Guidelines:
- Essays must be submitted in English language and typed in Word format.
- Word Count: 2,000 words
- Essay must be original work of the author and will undergo a plagiarism check.
- Font MUST be Times New Roman, size 12 with 2.0 line spacing and APA referencing style
